July 3,2015- Akshaya Vidya, an urban slum education project of Ekalavya Foundation, has launched another innovative program for slum children named ‘GEMS’
Under this program, students from class 6 to 10th from Akshaya vidya centres are given special training on Sundays. Subject specialists take classes which focus on strengthening basics, preparing them for board exam.The program was launched on 5th July at singareni colony. A well over 40 students from nearby slums have attended the inaugural program. The following persons have graced the occasion:
- Sri Surender Reddy, Educationist, Best teacher awardee
- Sri K. Venkatesh, Vice principal, Narayana college
- Sri K. Venugopal, Maths lecturer, Maths collge
- Sri Mudiraj Seetaram Rao, Vedic maths expert
- Mr. Uday, a student from Badruka college
After lighting the lamp, Sri Surender Reddy gave inspiring speech to the students. All other dignitaries have also given good advice to the students on how to plan and study well.
Core committee members of Akshaya vidya viz., Mr. T.Vara Prasad, Raja Sekhar, Kishore, Swati Reddy, Pavan Kumar, Mallik Vanga were present at the event.
Mr. Uday from Badruka college has promised to mobilize resources to conduct this weekly program with the help of his classmates.
We thank all the dignitaries and Mr. Uday and his team for making this program a grand start and we hope to cater to quality educational needs of all the upper primary school going children of Singareni slums through GEMS program.
